In-form hoop Damien Thornton rode the Michael Roebuck-trained Bel Burgess to an all-the-way win in the McRae Motors Wodonga Gold Cup (1590m).
The 22-year-old's confident ride to cross from barrier 12 of 12 and lead the field out helped the five-year-old Bel Esprit gelding to a dominant result, and marked Thornton's 15th winner in the past three weeks.
It was his first race ride on Bel Burgess, and he continued a purple patch that featured a Dunkeld Cup Day treble last weekend, as well as a mid-week metro winner aboard Goldie's Fortune for trainer Jane Baker.
Bel Burgess was a comfortable winner ahead of the Luke Oliver-trained Hot Ruby, with Strike Force from the Mike Moroney yard rounding out the placings.
